From vegan hair-styling to scalp treatment - we test the best hair oils

ADDING oil to your hair is the fastest way to reduce split ends and make lengths look healthy.

But when you’ve got fine, flat hair that is prone to being greasy, that’s the last thing you want to do. So here is how to get mirror-like shine, without the dirty roots...

BEAUTY: with Tara Leddem

SCHWARZKOPF got2b Oil-licious vegan hair-styling with argan oil, (50ml, £5, boots.com): Talk about small but mighty, I only needed half a pump of this potent oil for super- sleek strands.

If you have fine or short hair, proceed with caution as any more will leave your hair feeling slightly sticky.

While it definitely added shine and made my lengths feel less dry, I couldn’t put my hair in a bun or claw clip without my roots looking like they hadn’t been washed for a week.

If you have thick or extremely dry hair, you might get on with it better, but if you have average hair that needs a pick-me-up, look elsewhere.

Arkive hair oil, (50ml, £14, boots.com): The texture of this oil reminds me of a face serum, rather than a hair oil, so I thought it would be too heavy and weigh down my locks.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. Normally, I use the tiniest amount, but I can easily get away with three or four pumps on wet or dry hair without losing any volume.

And I’ve been receiving so many compliments on how shiny my hair is since I started using this.

Plus, it smells wonderful and the scent lingers between hair washes.

My favourite.

Monday Muse The Gloss scalp & hair oil (50ml, £45, mondaymuseskin.com): There’s nothing I love more than a multi-tasking beauty product, so this oil would normally be right up my street.

Except my scalp doesn’t really get dry or flaky, making the dual-purpose pretty redundant.

That said, it’s still great for dry, split ends. A couple of drops was plenty to reduce fly-aways and make mine look less straw-like.

And, while I don’t need to oil my scalp regularly, I found it washed out easily and left no residue.

So if you do suffer with scalp irritation, it’s a great option to cut down on bathroom waste.

I have been using Charlotte Tilbury’s Beautiful Skin Foundation every day since it launched in January, and this week the brand is finally launching a concealer to match – Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer, £25.
